I will offer two classes and people are welcome to take one or both. There will be a field experience class and an editing class. People may choose to sign up for one or several classes. I will offer different packages for field and editing.
There will be five slots in each class. Once things move forward I will open up more times if there is interest. I would like to accommodate everyone who is interested.
I want these to be as accessible as possible. If you are facing financial barriers, please reach out to me to schedule a time to discuss a plan.
Field Experience
These will occur at pre-determined locations around Bellingham, WA. The first class will be at Whatcom Falls (rain or shine, unless it’s pouring we will reschedule). Field classes will last 75 minutes and will consist of basic instruction on how to use manual settings on a DLSR camera (or equivalent).
I will teach basic concepts of how cameras work (shutter speed, aperture, and ISO). I will provide 1:1 support to each person to build confidence in using manual settings. Manual settings are essential to capture the most optimal photograph. I will also teach basic composition principles.
You will need a camera that you can manually adjust settings. I will send a questionnaire to interested parties before scheduling a class. I’m happy to discuss equipment questions with you.
Editing
The digital age of photography has opened many doors to different types of editing software and styles of editing. In this class I will provide tutorials and 1:1 support on how to use basic functions of Adobe Lightroom software. This software will need to be purchased before the class and each student will need a working laptop that can be brought to class. I will go over the three main topics of editing in each class and again provide 1:1 individualized support.
The following topics will be covered: Light: exposure, contrast, highlight, shadows, white & black Color: temperature (warm, cooler) saturation, hue, luminescence Masking: gradients (linear & radial), and healing (spot removal)
Editing classes will occur shortly after the field classes at Woods Coffee in Barkley Village in a reserved room. Classes will last 75 minutes.
